Engineers: 3 Things to Examine Closely When Looking to Hire a 3D Animation Studio

Truth be told, civil engineers are some of the brightest people I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. That said, just like you and me, they’re not without their flaws. 

I’m a Producer with Industrial Visualizations (iViz), and most of the time, when I speak with an engineer about potentially working together on a 3D animation, their concerns are largely built around one thing, and one thing alone—price. 

This isn’t the best way to go about doing things, but you know what? 

I get it—nobody wants to offer up their first-born son, in exchange for some 3D animation. Still, when it comes time to choose a 3D animation studio to help make sense of your large-scale engineering project, there’s more you’ll want to take a look at than dollar signs …

Below, you’ll find three important things to consider:

1) Testimonials

Amazon is wildly popular. 

Not only are the prices usually great, but there’s no need to get dressed, hop in the car and drive to a nearby shopping mall—everything can be taken care of from the comfort of a living room couch. 

In spite of the site’s great reputation, however, before finalizing a purchase, product reviews are almost always read. It’s a psychological thing known as “social proof.” People always feel more confident making a purchase when other like-minded consumers have had a positive experience.

So, when shopping around for a 3D animation studio to work with, do the same thing. 

First, check out the studio’s website. Oftentimes, client testimonials will be posted there. Next, if they’re not, request that a few be sent your way. And lastly, if you’re still uneasy about the situation, make contact with a past client, inquiring about what their experience was like. 

Yes, you’ll need to do some research, but this is one of the best, most sure-fire way to ensure that your state-of-the-art engineering project receives the kind of 3D animation it needs to succeed.

2) Client List

Most articles similar to this one will suggest that you work with a studio that, through their client list, has proven that they can work with all kinds of industries. In theory, the more adaptable they’ve proven their 3D animations to be, the greater the odds they’ll be able to help you, too.

Here’s the deal, though: you’re not looking for just any kind of 3D animation—you need a service that’s prove it can handle the complexities of a high-profile feat of civil engineering.

Because of this, when taking a gander at past clients, don’t search for a “one-size-fits-all” kind of 3D animation studio. Instead, find one that’s worked closely with the engineering experts you hope to emulate.

3) Past Work Samples

There’s a reason this point occupies the final spot on my list …

Without a doubt, it’s the most important. 

More than a string of top-notch testimonials or high-profile clients, the best way for you to make sure you hire the right 3D animation studio is to look at the previous projectsthey’ve tackled. 

If a studio has worked with engineers in the past and produced incredible work for them, rest assured, they’ll be able to do the same thing for you.

But don’t just look for high-quality work—when flipping through a studio’s portfolio, pay special attention to the tone, message and quality of graphics.

Does the studio’s style match up with what you’re needing? If so, you’ve likely found a winner.
